The artist and the genius, are they something just the same?
Can you come late to brilliance and not have it be a game?
Retired people take up painting, acting, sculpting roses;
Are they in the same league as someone like Grandma Moses?
Passion and achievement play an obvious large part –
But when it's put in front of you do you think it is "art"?
There's got to be some madness, and some sacrifice as well,
Some lurid revelations, and some time that's spent in hell.
If you're not prepared to have the world think you are daft,
Continue painting sunsets but just call it "handicraft."
