The longer that you take to wrap
a present for a child,
the less time it will take them
to rip open it like wild.
We are like that greedy child
who never stops to savor
all the pretty things in life
that God grants as a favor.
Instead we rip and tear apart
sweet beauty in our haste
to get at what we think is ours,
and never mind the waste.
Tear off all the wrapping
and the world's an ugly place.
Better to leave some intact
and wonder in good grace.
