                    EVOLUTION

Did you ever put a penny on the railroad track?

Did you ever swim a lap right after lunch?

Did you ever drive around without a seat belt on?

Have you told your spouse you watched the Brady Bunch?

The world is full of steady folk who take no risk,

Who jump to no conclusions Spring or Fall.

Who dare not make a ripple in the pond of life

Or skip a day of work to watch baseball.

Did you ever eat a tater when it's crisp and raw?

Did you ever go to church without a shave?

Did you ever waste your money on a beggar's cup?

Have you ever walked across a new-mown grave?

Caution makes a boring chart to sail your ship,

Making up imaginary reefs.

Sailing in blue water by a compass set,

Detouring around the odd beliefs.

Did you ever cross the yellow line upon the road?

Did you ever play with matches as a kid?

Did you ever drink a soda just to hear the burp?

Have you kept a jar of food without a lid?

Oh there is nothing sweeter than a rule ignored,

Obligations scattered to the breeze.

If we don't disrupt things every now and then

We'd still be monkeys swinging in the trees.
