A Feast of Brand Names

The holidays are on us and I think I've never seen

More ado on how to dress up casserole green bean.

Advertising tells us that this dish may just compare

With caviar and foie gras or a dance by Fred Astaire.

So shake a leg and get your Campbell's soup and Swanson's broth –

Do not let the holidays deliver you to sloth!

Mix and match the brand names that have made this country great –

And if it's mostly salt and grease, still we don't hesitate

To go to Pepperidge Farms for stuffing or to Ocean Spray

For that can of cranberries to make a strange soufflé.

Blow your nose with Kleenex in a jolly Santa box,

Carnation for the eggnog (and then maybe to detox.)

Pillsbury has dinner rolls all ready for the browning.

McCormick makes the gravy in which ev'rything is drowning.

Gotta love those Terry's Choc'late Oranges, by gosh;

Mrs. Olson's Lefse is a chewy Nordic nosh.

Poppycock will give you diabetes, but who cares?

Planters has got nuts galore – and have some Gummi Bears!

Homemade fudge and taffy made with Crystal Sugar – wow!

We do not need to hear of kwashiorkor just right now.

Our jolly feast of name brands can dismiss all thoughts quite dismal –

Just be prepared and have at hand a snort of Pepto Bismol.
