Our State Governments

When you are elected to decide the people's fate,

I don't think you are mandated in shutting down the state.

Governors want budget cuts, and so do legislators,

But they are acting more like hungry crocs and alligators.

Any group without some pull is fair game for dismissal;

The poor and dispossessed are blown away like downy thistle.

So if you can't afford a contribution to campaigns

You will not be boarding any state-run gravy trains.

Like any other country club, the states can be exclusive –

If you have not paid your dues your rights can be elusive.

I know I am redundant with this strident observation;

It's just I thought that we had a better, kinder, wiser nation!
